Scholarships

Our Commitment to Scholarships
We are committed to addressing the racial, social, and economic inequality that affects Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color; queer and trans people; as well as people with disabilities or significant economic barriers. We can do this, in part by offering flexible payment plans, partial scholarships, and skill trades for tuition. We hope you will ask for the assistance you need to attend Wonder Woods, and we will do our best to provide as much assistance as we can each year, made possible by individual donors to our program. As we continue to grow our fundraising program (powered by volunteers in our community), we hope to continue to expand our scholarship offerings.

We also offer skill-trade scholarships on a limited basis. If you have a skill you can lend Wonder Woods, we can exchange that for a tuition reduction. These are limited because we can only trade for skills that we are currently in need of and that would save us from any budgeted spending. This savings could then be reappropriated into your tuition.  Please see form for more information.

How We Prioritize Scholarship Awarding

  • We prioritize Summer, Spring Break, AND year round attendees equally.
We have one fund for Summer/Spring Break scholarships and one fund for our year round scholarships (as these tend to be different populations of kids). We keep the applications and funding separate for these programs. When the Summer/Spring break fund runs out, we do not “borrow” from the year-round fund to award more scholarships to Summer/Spring Break kids, as we need to reserve funds for the year-round attendees as well.

  • For child/caregiver pair enrollees, Wonder woods offers sliding scale pricing as opposed to applying for scholarships. Please indicate the sliding scale price on your registration form.  We are able to be flexible with tuition for our child/caregiver pairs. Please contact our Executive Director with inquiries on this. Please note we are not currently able to offer sliding scale pricing to drop-off enrollees.

  • We equally prioritize people of all identities who apply for scholarships (e.g., Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Queer, Trans, Disabled, or people facing significant economic barriers). There is no ranking system among these identities. We ask you to self-identify on the scholarship application. We do not ask for proof of identity or income.

  • We prioritize awarding scholarships to as many kids as possible versus giving larger amounts to a few kids.

  • We prioritize awarding scholarships to kids who attend more days. (e.g., a child who attends 5 days a week vs. 2 days a week)

  • People who submit their applications past the deadline receive less priority than those who submit by the deadline. People who enroll mid-year are less likely to receive scholarships, given that many of the funds may already have been awarded. But we do allow late applications to be submitted and we will award what we can. The chances are just likely that if you miss the deadline, there won’t be many scholarship funds left to award.

How Much Scholarship Funding You Can Expect to Receive

  • In our scholarship application form, we ask you to state the amount of funding you need. You must first agree to read this Green Bottle Info Graphic which helps you carefully consider how you can be accountable for what your family can and should pay.

  • Because we prioritize awarding scholarships to as many kids as possible, most of our scholarships cover between 10-40%. We rarely are able to grant more than 40% of your tuition.
