Field Trips

Wonder Woods offers Chicagoland schools the chance to enhance their curriculum bringing their students into wild spaces where they can directly engage with nature. Wonder Woods uses a multi-disciplinary approach that encourages the familiarity and comfort required for deep, experiential learning. Classes visit a single site up to six times each year, and participate in a variety of standards-based before- and after-trip activities to reinforce topics explored on each trip.
For the 2019-20 school year, Wonder Woods will offer field trip programming for Kindergarten, 1st, and 4th grades only. Over the coming years, we hope to expand our trip offerings from Kindergarten to 8th grade.
Wonder Woods currently only offers field trips to LaBagh Woods and Dan Ryan Woods, but will include new areas as new schools are incorporated. All trips will be to the closest appropriate natural space.
Each field trip will align with Common Core learning standards for that grade and will pull from a variety of disciplines, including:

  • arts and crafts
  • literature, poetry and writing
  • social and natural history
  • ecology, biology and chemistry
  • math, physics and engineering
  • orienteering and survival skills
By incorporating a variety of topics into outdoor learning, we aim to capture the attention of all children regardless of their interests. Read more about our teaching philosophy.
